How does Laser Resurfacing help with skin tightening?

Our Smartxide DOT® is a fractional CO2 laser that vaporizes micro-columns of skin to provide the immediate tightening and resurfacing of the skin. It provides collagen remodeling that continues for up to a year increasing elasticity. The DOT treatment smooths, tightens and resurfaces imperfections like mild to moderate wrinkles, sagging skin, scars, course texture, sun damage, sun spots, age spots and “crepey” skin.

Because the system uses fine micro beams, it minimizes discomfort, downtime and speeds healing. The treatment takes just over an hour with downtime that can be tailored to the result desired. DotTherapy can be used on face, eyelids, neck, chest, hands and stretch marks. Typical results last up to 5 years or more.

Am I a good candidate?

There are many factors to consider when choosing which kind of laser skin resurfacing treatment is best for you. Laser skin resurfacing is geared toward people who are unsatisfied with their skin's appearance. If you see skin damaged by the sun, age spots, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, or redness issues, this treatment may be helpful to address these complexion blemishes. Also, it works well for those who have scaly patches, rough texture, or other skin surface problems. This treatment is not recommended if you have very dark skin tones or active acne outbreaks. Additionally, it's important to know that there is a recovery period associated with these laser therapy. Some patients, based on their skin condition, may require up to 2 – 3 weeks for recovery.

What Can I Expect After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

After less aggressive resurfacing treatments, a healing ointment will be smoothed over the skin, and you can return home to recover. The treated skin may appear red, and there may be some swelling and irritation. These symptoms subside in a few days, and the skin peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day timeframe. For those who are receiving a more intense resurfacing treatment, your downtime will last longer. The treated sections may be protected with dressings, and the irritation, swelling, and burning sensation will be intensified. Pain medication can be prescribed to lessen these side effects. The recovery time for a more intense resurfacing procedure may last 2 – 3 weeks. All patients need to minimize their UV exposure following their resurfacing treatment and apply sun protection throughout the day. For all laser treatments, the skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off. It's vital to avoid interfering with the healing process to keep from scarring and to protect your skin from environmental exposure. Once the peeling process has been finished, your skin will feel softer while also appearing rejuvenated, clearer, and younger.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs

How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Your laser skin resurfacing costs will depend on the treatment type you select. In your initial consultation, we will ask about your skin problems and goals before explaining the types of resurfacing treatments. Then, a team member can help you decide on your resurfacing treatment and discuss the cost of laser skin resurfacing. About Face & Body Medical Spa often runs treatment specials and packages so please be sure to ask during your appointment.

What's the best type of resurfacing for me?

A team member will help you choose which resurfacing treatment works best for your needs and goals. The best treatment for you will depend on your skin's health, skin problems, and how deep you want the treatment to go. When choosing the best procedure, your preference on recovery time is also an important consideration. If you feel unsure about the options, we generally recommend starting with a milder treatment to see how you like your results and adjust as needed for your second treatment.

How can I help my skin recover after a resurfacing treatment?

Following your treatment, someone on our staff will talk to you about how you can improve your skin healing. The number one rule is not to peel or pick your skin. Picking the skin can cause long-term damage, like scars. Additionally, you should avoid all hair removal methods on the treatment area, including waxing, shaving, or depilatory creams. For additional comfort during healing, we can suggest a cream to help soothe treated areas.

Should I get laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or microdermabrasion?

After listening to your issues, we will help you decide if laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or dermabrasion treatment is best for you. While they all improve your skin, each has pros and cons. During your consultation, we can review each choice and develop a treatment plan.

How often should I get laser resurfacing treatments?

Depending on the laser resurfacing method you choose, you might need to wait weeks or even a few months between treatments. Deeper laser treatments will give you longer-lasting results; however, they will require a lengthy recovery period. Please let us know how frequently you can come back in for treatments so we can take this into account when selecting your laser skin resurfacing technique.
