KYBELLA® may be right for you if:
- You’re bothered (unhappy, self-conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness
- You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are
- You don’t want to have surgery
- You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
KYBELLA® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin* by physically destroying fat cells.
How Does KYBELLA® Work?

Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through your body’s natural metabolism.

What Can I Expect With KYBELLA?
KYBELLA doesn't require general anesthesia, so you can leave our office when you are ready to resume your usual routine. You may notice temporary numbness, bruising, or swelling under your chin, although this should not last longer than a few days. Contact About Face & Body Medical Spa right away if you are experiencing any unusual symptoms, including facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, or if your smile is uneven. While the fat cells that are eliminated do not return, the cells leftover can get larger, so you should maintain a stable weight after your KYBELLA treatments to keep new pockets of fat from developing. Optimal results following this treatment leave your neck appearing sleeker and slimmer, and your profile will be better defined.
How much does KYBELLA cost?
KYBELLA treatment costs will depend on the number of sessions you need. During your initial consultation, a personalized treatment plan will be developed to fit your budget and goals. A member of our staff will also discuss payment options with you during your first appointment.
How does KYBELLA work?
Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in KYBELLA, is designed to break down and destroy fat cells in the body. After the fat cells are eliminated, these fat cells cannot grow back. This is why more KYBELLA treatments shouldn't be necessary once you have finished.
Can KYBELLA be used to treat other areas of the body?
Right now, KYBELLA can only be used to treat the area below the chin. KYBELLA can effectively minimize the look of a double chin. KYBELLA has not been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for any other areas of the face or body.
Am I eligible for a KYBELLA treatment?
There are a few factors that could make you ineligible to receive a KYBELLA treatment. You need to be at least 18 years old, not breastfeeding or pregnant, and you should not have any infection at the treatment site. Prior to the procedure being performed, you are encouraged to share any health concerns and your medical history with your injector so they can determine if you may be at risk for an adverse reaction from the treatment.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
At your initial consultation, a customized treatment plan will be developed to match your needs. Typically, patients receive between 2 – 4 KYBELLA treatments before achieving their goals. KYBELLA appointments must also be spaced about one month apart. You shouldn't receive any more than six treatments.
